Shoutaro the sleepy sloth FREE amigurumi pattern

Shoutaro the sleepy sloth FREE amigurumi pattern

If I could sleep a thousand sleeps, I would.

But life is too precious to just let it pass on by, with my eyes closed.

It’s raining again though — my favourite kind that just drizzles and tinkle and slip softly off the leaves on the tree.

Perhaps I’ll snooze for a little while more.

If anyone sees me, maybe, just maybe, they’ll call me a dreamer.

You will also be crocheting in an oval around both sides of the foundation chain.
With khaki yarn:
Row 1: Ch 7. Starting from the second ch from hook, sc in the next 5 ch then make 3sc in the final ch.
You will now be crocheting on the other side of the chain, and continuing till the end in an oval.
Sc in the next 4 ch then make 2sc in the final ch {14}.

Arms (Make 2)
With teal yarn:

Rounds 3-17 (15 rounds altogether): Sc around {10}. ** For second arm, shorten this by two rounds.
Fasten off and leave a long end for sewing.
Flatten piece.

Legs (Make 2)

With teal yarn:
Round 1: Sc 8 in magic ring {8}.
Rounds 2-7 (6 rounds altogether): Sc around {8}.
Fasten off and leave a long end for
sewing.
* No stuffing required for the arms and legs.

Assembly
1. Sew the face piece on Round 9 onwards of the head/body. I like to use backstitches to make it look neat.

2. Sew nose in the center of the face piece.

3. Sew on eye pieces, positioned diogonally downwards about 2 stitches away from the nose.

4. Sew on cheeks below the eyes.

5. With black crochet thread, sew on the sleepy eyelids, with a diagonal backstitch about 2 stitches long.

6. Sew on the eyebrows above the eyes, also with a diagonal backstitch about 2 stitches long.

7. Sew a “v” shape for the lips.

8. Position the longer arm below the right eye. Whipstitch on.

9. Position the shorter arm slightly higher, next to the left eye. Whipstitch on. You can also position the arms any way you like! The cutest way is to ensure they look like they can “grab” onto something.

10. Sew on the legs near Round 27 of the head/body. They should have a smaller gap as compared to the arms, and should be positioned within the space between the arms.

11. For the hair at the top, you will surface crochet onto the head/body. With Shoutaro facing you, find the top-center of the head. Attach yarn and ch 4. Starting from the second ch from hook, sc in the next 3. Slip stitch back onto the head. Repeat 2 more times and fasten off.

And there you go! Your very own sleepy pocket sloth! If you manage to try it in another colour way, I’d love to see (I’m thinking lavender in place of teal would be lovely too)!

  1. Many thanks for the adorable little sloth – he sure does look a bit like a lazy bones! He loves to sit in my work basket in the middle of the leftover yarn I made him with!
